THE THRIVE CARE PROGRAM

Get back your competitive edge

The THRIVE Program is multifaceted. Its cornerstones are men’s education, customized treatment for each individual and frequent monitoring of each man’s progress and health.

Initially, each man (and if he wishes, his partner) receives a 30 minute session of education and counseling from Clinic Director, Gordon Tonnelly covering a review of hormones, their functions and the problems that arise when they decline. Men are taught how these hormone problems are relevant to their specific complaints and educated about all treatment options. They also learn about nutritionals and supplements.

Symptoms are evaluated using a symptom assessment questionnaire only available to the Masters Men’s Clinic. This is the Masters Andropause Screening Index (MASI). It has been designed to score symptoms of low testosterone that often cannot be measured by blood tests alone. The man answers 50 questions regarding his life and receives a symptom score. After treatment, he once again answers the same questionnaire. Routinely, there is a significant improvement which translates into a healthier, happier life and work for each man. Using this unique method, it is the man himself who decides how much he has improved; it is not just the doctor’s impression.

If erectile dysfunction is also a problem, the man completes a 15 question symptom assessment ED questionnaire (the IIEF). This form provides an accurate and uniquely sensitive understanding of the man’s problem and provides the basis for improvement.

After men have completed the MASI, they are seen by Dr. Lawrence Komer, a world renowned expert in hormones. He is one of the world’s first Interventional Endocrinologists. Dr. Komer discusses their specific health situation and provides specific medical insight for testing and treatment strategies that will optimize that man’s hormonal health.

Bloodwork includes investigations of testosterone, estrogen, DHEA, prolactin, LH, fasting insulin, thyroid, liver function, PSA, lipid profiles and high sensitivity C-reactive protein.

Each man is given a written report of all pre-treatment assessments, and a brief commentary about the meaning of these results. This report includes treatment recommendations tailored to maximize each man’s vitality and health. After the initial office consultation, Dr. Komer sees the man for follow-up in 6 weeks and then at appropriate intervals. Dr. Komer will assess the progress of the man’s hormonal health. A unique feature of the Masters Men’s Clinic is the ongoing assessment and titration of testosterone levels. Most clinics do not continuously optimize testosterone levels. Stress and other medications may affect even healthy levels of hormone restoration; with this program, doses are monitored and individualized to give ideal results.

TREATMENT AND MEDICAL STRATEGIES

Dr. Komer customizes treatment programs for each man. Men also choose the treatment they feel would be the most convenient in their particular situation. Some standard methods of giving testosterone are not optimal nor are they effective. The Masters Men’s Clinic has found from its own research and feedback from men, that the best ways to administer hormones are unique for each type of hormone therapy. Besides testosterone replacement, men may need hCG to maintain their fertility, aromatase inhibitors to control estrogen levels, DHEA to optimize treatment, thyroid replacement and medications to lower prolactin levels. All of this is determined during the man’s assessments and response to treatment.
